“Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you.” - Frank Lloyd Wright

We need the natural world and all that it offers us. Among its prolific gifts, the natural world shows us what is truly important. It is humbling in its persistence and durability; it is organized and rhythmic; it is abundant; it seeks to survive and thrive in all conditions; and it offers us, freely, the opportunity to discover, challenge, wonder, and encounter the truest parts of ourselves. I am completely amazed by the wildlife that we co-exist with every day, and I am compelled to explore deeply the wild places that offer refuge, space, and abundance.

Spending time in nature has been deeply healing for me throughout my life. The order, rhythm, and the immense variations of geography and wildlife has left me in awe, humbled, and deeply grateful. More than anything, however, time in nature has taught me about our innate need to interact with the natural world and how this interaction deeply and profoundly enhances our lives and wellbeing and has the power to bring about an ecological consciousness for the protection and conservation of wild nature.

Throughout my years of exploring wild places, birds have captured my heart. Through them, I have heard the most beautiful songs, witnessed ingenuity, enduring commitment, exquisite parenting, consistency, serenity, and incomparable beauty. Whether it be watching the least tern protect her chick, the osprey hunting and delivering fish day after day, the silent hunt of the owl, the grace of the heron, the playfulness of the long-tailed duck, or patience of the egret, I feel a resonance and connection to their fortitude, unyielding will to survive, and their endurance.

Bird photography is wonderfully challenging and inspirational, and I have found no greater joy than being out in the wild with the birds. My photography is a means to capture these deeply felt experiences with a hope that I can transport you, the viewer, to these birds, and collectively we may become more aware, more ecologically conscious, and willing to share space and time with the wild places and wildlife that gives us so much, so willingly.

Whether you are a photographer or bird lover, I hope you enjoy these images. But more importantly, enjoy nature and all that it provides. There is nothing comparable in this world that is so beautiful, so abundant, and so accessible that can teach, nurture, and offer wonders like the natural world!

Nature, among everything else, is what has always made sense to me. Along side my love of the outdoors and profound, unsatisfiable desire to explore wild places and encounter wildlife, I have been a teacher, an environment educator with Audubon New Mexico, a school administrator, and consultant to non-profits. I feel extremely fortunate to have won local awards for my photography and been selected for several juried art shows.
